Sports Illustrated

I gained employment at SI in November 2019 and continued on until April 2021.
In my time with Sports Illustrated, I predominately created editorial design graphics with the occassional social post and/or story. Additionally, I was tasked with creating new PSD templates for NFL and NBA themed video shows. Other assignments included but are not limited to: theme and logo design, photo manipulation, award contest graphics and more.

Editorial Design: MLB

Being one of, if not the first major league sport to attempt to continue on during a global pandemic, the MLB became a sort of ‘petri dish’ or lab rat. The concept of placing the grass and dirt diamond inside of a glass transparent science dish lended itself to entice readers into learning more about this precarious journey during a crisis.

NFL Social Projects.

Above you can find two of my greater examples of social design work. On the left, a graphic to represent start/sit advice from an SI expert. On the right, end of year NFL SI award picks. I created these large themes with strong foregrounds and backgrounds, mixed in with highly specific image choices for player cutouts. This helped create a great amount of harmony and hierarchy.

Logo/Theme Design

The Fittest 50 of the 2020 sports season was in need of a new theme and direction. I created a tight and rigid mark that lended itself to the annual list presented by SI. It was used to create motion graphics, editorial graphics (above) and select athletes on social posts.

Editorial Design: NBA

Kyrie Irving was traded to the Brooklyn Nets from the Boston Celtics. I was tasked with creating an editorial graphic to represent the article about the move. The rectangular strips are meant to display a visual of the NBA floor board, mixed in with team colors and arrows to show the transition from the Celtics to the Nets.

Social/Editorial: CFB

3rd annual year of Sports Illustrated “crunching of 10 years of data” to identify the best college programs for specific position groups. I capitalized on this project by creating dynamic positioning of players in front of the U which has classic football turf and ball imagery.

Editorial: NBA

This editorial graphic was used to showcase an article about NBA player sponsored sneakers. By not only adding a vertical and color slash that was shown in the sneakers themselves, I also snipped off the creative sharp wave from the center sneaker to add more motion.

Editorial: MLB

Editorial graphic to showcase the start of the 2020 MLB Playoffs. Using textures of cracked dirt and dust evoked some of the true natures of the game. Finding unity in the construction of cut-outs and the World Series trophy.
